Legendary Luigi Termignoni who created the Iconic Brand Termignoni Passes Away at 75

Luigi Termignoni in 1969 opens his first Ducati, Kawasaki and Honda mechanic’s workshop and dealership. Drove immediately from his insatiable passion for motorcycles and speed, he becomes a recognised racing engines preparer, building for 20 years, special parts for 4 stroke engines, working with suppliers from all over Italy.

His exhausts were made famous in the Paris-Dakar rallies of the ’70s and ‘80s and even the Le Mans 24 Hours Race for their performance, light weight and strength. Termignoni exhausts have won 10 MotoGP championships, 16 World Superbikes and many other titles including cross country, enduro, trials, motocross and road racing.

In 1971, by pioneer he buys the first dyno bench on which he tries and develops all his creations and insights. Around the middle of the 1970's, Luigi Termignoni realises the deficiency in the dedicated exhaust systems market and starts creating the first exhausts, in particular on Kawasaki forward 4 cylinders. The first exhausts produced are completely handmade, from bending to welding to the color and devoid of any silencer.

In 1976, begins it's marriage with Bimota of which he becomes supervisor for the mechanical motor, and with whom will develop different systems. At the end  of 1970's with the advent of modern exhaust systems with silencers, which significantly reduced the decibel produced, Termignoni creates the first aluminum silencers combining lightness and strength.

In the 1980's after a further expansion of the company, Termignoni started the development and the production of the first exhaust system for Ducati, a synergic collaboration which is still going on. In the mean time, the company works with Honda, specifically during the Le Mans 24h, where Termignoni has the change to be in charge of the production of the 80% of the exhausts system dedicated to the racing moto.

In 1988, Fred Merkel won the World Superbike with his Honda RC30, bringing in Termignoni the fist success for the company. Since then, Termignoni has won 16 World Superbike, 10 MotoGP, 2 Paris Dakar and Rally Raid World Championship.

In the early 1990's  thanks a great insight of Luigi Termignoni, the company starts the production of the first exhaust system in titanium.

Since 2002 we boast a lot of fruitfull partnership in MotoGP, Moto2, Moto3, SBK, SS, SSTK, MX, Enduro, Trial e Rally Raid con Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Yamaha, MV Agusta, Montesa, Ossa e Beta.

His exhausts became the aftermarket pipe to fit to a Ducati after Conti exhausts bit the dust. Luigi sold the factory a decade ago and was president until 2015.

Our sincere condolences to Luigi’s family, friends and devotees.

Rather than a minute’s silence for his passing, perhaps we should blip our throttles in remembrance!

RIP - Luigi Termignoni
